Esta es una pregunta NO tan fácil de responder:…Podríamos, sin embargo, realizar un análisis comparado de la dificultad relativa de cada uno de estos exámenes de certificación del idioma inglés.
Basándonos en los puntajes—derivados de las escalas— que cada examen asigna a cada nivel de habilidad (A1, A2, B1,…), podríamos inferir que Cambridge CEQ– es es el más difícil ya que tiene la escala más extendida de todos…
Pero, esto NO es una buena señal para poder determinar el grado de dificultad, ya que la escala NO nos dice a qué grado de esfuerzo o exigencia los postulantes son sometidos durante la sesión de testeo o evaluación. O sea, que grado de rigor y complejidad tienen sus preguntas.
También podríamos inferir que los exámenes más exigentes son el IELTS y el TOEFL i-BT, ya que extienden sus escalas y puntajes para alcanzar los niveles de competencia C1 y C2.
Además, podríamos pensar que debido a que estos exámenes son ampliamente reconocidos y valorados en el ámbito académico y profesional, y son requeridos para acceder a programas de estudio y oportunidades laborales en países de habla inglesa, pueden estar entre los más difíciles,
En contraste, el examen Duolingo English Test muestra una escala de 0-160 puntos (con incrementos cada 5), otorgando un puntaje mínimo de 60 puntos (un 38% del esfuerzo total posible) para asignar el nivel B1.
Y esto SÍ que nos dice algo…
Duolingo está entre los exámenes de certificación que comparativamente exige el segundo puntaje más bajo (después de TOEFL-iBT) —proporcional al esfuerzo total de la prueba (sólo un 38%)— para alcanzar el nivel de competencia B1.
Pero, luego para el nivel B2 se equipara a IELTS (56% para ambos), pero exige más que TOEFL-iBT (50%)
En los rangos de C1 Duolingo exige el esfuerzo de puntaje (en relación al total) más alto de los tres, con un 84%, seguido de un 83% para TOEFL y de un 78% para IELTS.
En los rangos superiores al 85%, Duolingo es bastante similar a los otros, en cuanto al esfuerzo que requiere en relación al total posible…
Claro está que Cambridge es es el más exigente (en esta relación) de los aquí comentados…
Todo esto sugiere que…
Duolingo es una opción bastante accesible para aquellos que buscan demostrar su dominio del inglés en un nivel intermedio, en especial los que apuntan a lograr un puntaje cercano a 60 Puntos, que en este examen otorga la calificación mínima para B1!!!>>>
Y esto SÍ es relevante, claro está…
Para aquellos postulantes que buscan certificar su destreza apuntando a obtener colocación en los rangos superiores al nivel B2, Duolingo exige, sobre el total posible de examen, un esfuerzo muy similar a los otros exámenes.
Recuerda, que he comentado que todo esto NO DA CUENTA del tipo de complejidad y de exigencia interna de cada sección, o del tipo de ejercicios que cada examen propone a los candidatos; algo que sería materia de mayor estudio o análisis, pero que puede estar relacionada con las sensaciones, el estilo y carácter de cada candidato, de quien va a rendir tal o cual examen y de algunas otras preferencias personales…
Es importante destacar que el Marco Común Europeo de Referencia para las Lenguas (CEFR) proporciona un marco de referencia común para evaluar la competencia en idiomas, pero cada examen tiene sus propios criterios y enfoques. Por lo tanto, los puntajes obtenidos en un examen no se pueden equiparar directamente con los de otro.
Cada examen tiene su nivel de dificultad y sus propias características, y la elección del examen dependerá de los objetivos individuales de cada persona en cuanto a estudios, trabajo o inmigración y otros de ese tipo.
En resumen, este análisis comparado nos permite entender la relativa dificultad de los exámenes de certificación del idioma inglés y nos brinda información para tomar decisiones más informadas sobre cuál examen se ajusta mejor a nuestras necesidades y objetivos lingüísticos.
